We are a dedicated group of individuals to bridge the gap between the desire to retire and/or release these beautiful animals back to the wild and the practical restrictions of doing so. Because: IF it is shown that there is an alternative to the captive display of these animals, that is humane and righteous, then public opinion will demand these animals be given this alternative.

Internationally, there are approximately 2,360 Whales and dolphins in captivity. Most are in private aquariums, zoos or swim programs. It is the common belief that none of these captive environments are humane to these huge, beautiful, and intelligent creatures. Due to this belief, the public has noticed and concerned.

Activists, politicians, local and State governments, Countries, and the general public are of a like mindset that no longer support the captive animal industry with using whales and dolphins for entertainment.

There is no “one size fits all” solution to this problem. Each aquarium, zoo or other facility that houses these cetaceans and other large animals must have goals, facilities, finances, and support to address these issues.

A large percentage of whales and dolphins in captivity today, were born in captivity. They know of no other life. It would be a cruel and inhumane act to release these animals into the wild. However, some may be candidates for release after a few years of training.

The majority will either need to go to a Sanctuary or other facility that is better equipped to handle a long term “retirement” until death.

WDAG will offer that specific set of skills, based on many decades of firsthand knowledge of these animals, facilities, husbandry, transport, logistics and science. A Sanctuary is one solution. There may be others.

As a dedicated group, we have the desire to retire, relocate, release, or mitigate their current situation. This is based on many factors including space, species, age, and financial constraints of the sponsors.

The Whale and Dolphin Advocacy Group is a non profit Corporation and can also get involved with providing funding and financial support, if needed.

We are the voice of knowledge, common sense, reality, and dedication to bring a reasonable and sustainable solution to retirement for these animals that have provided us with so much over the years.

It’s time for a change.
